To plant the seedlings or cuttings of your plants, you can use coffee capsules, especially if you do not have enough space in your house.

How to recycle coffee capsules into pots for seedlings or plant cuttings?

After preparing your coffee, keep the capsules, they can be used for your plants. In fact, the capsules can be used as a pot for seedlings,  or for planting plant cuttings,  particularly succulents. Moreover, succulents, also called succulent plants, are easy to care for, and can flourish even when the weather is dry and arid. These are the kind of plants to have if you don’t have a green thumb, or if you don’t want to worry about watering the plants every day. Forgetting to water will not harm your succulents,  since they manage to retain water thanks to their thick, fleshy leaves. Another reason why succulents can be sown in coffee capsules  is their size.  Most succulents are small, resistant and can therefore grow in capsules,  before being transplanted into another  larger pot. To transform your capsules into succulent pots, simply follow these 3 steps.

Step 1: prepare the cuttings:

A cutting is a piece of plant that is detached from the mother plant and transplanted into a pot to obtain new plants. Cuttings are also  a way of reproducing and multiplying several plants.  Cutting a succulent plant is very simple. Using a sharp, disinfected blade, take, depending on the type of your succulent plant, a piece of stem or leaf from its base. It is important to have a sharp blade  in order to make a clean cut.  To protect your cuttings from fungus, you can sprinkle the cut with charcoal. Then let your cuttings dry for at least 3 days,  in order to promote their healing.

Step 2: Prepare the capsules:

Take your coffee capsules and wash them thoroughly. Then dry them and poke small holes in the bottom to promote drainage and let the water flow out. Fill your buckets with sand mixed with potting soil. Adding sand helps improve drainage, as do clay balls. Succulents fear humidity,  hence the importance of having a draining substrate.

Step 3: plant the cuttings:

After preparing your container, all you have to do is plant the cuttings in the potting soil. Then place your pots  in a cool, bright place,  without watering the soil. After a few days you will see new leaves and roots appear.

If you choose to sow succulent seeds rather than cuttings, simply plant them in a drained substrate  and water them with non-calcareous water to encourage their germination.  Succulent seeds actually need humidity and light to germinate. When new shoots appear, you can then repot them in a new pot.

Note that the coffee capsules can be used as pots  for the seedlings of your choice.  You can grow succulents, but also any seeds or cuttings of your choice.

Can coffee grounds be used for seedlings?

If capsules are useful for your plants, so are coffee grounds. When added to seedling soil, it gradually releases phosphorus, potassium and nitrogen. These nutrients will allow you to have healthy young shoots  and promote their growth.  However, be careful of excesses. Consider fertilizing your houseplants only twice a month,  during their growing season.  In addition to being a good fertilizer,  coffee grounds are also a natural repellent. It helps fight against parasites that attack indoor plants, but also garden or vegetable garden plants, such as mosquitoes, slugs, snails and even caterpillars.

That said, coffee capsules can be used as pots to plant seedlings or cuttings of easy-to-grow plants, so you can have vegetation in your home, even if you’re short on space.
