6 Ways to Use Aluminum Foil in the Garden
Thermal insulator
One of the primary functions of aluminum foil in the garden is to use it as thermal insulation for plant growth. You will need two or three balls.
To set this up, simply unfold a sheet of aluminum foil at the bottom, under the seeds and the soil: it will not only insulate them from the rest of the soil, but will have the function of providing heat by refracting light.
Protect plants
By wrapping or covering the trunks and stems of plants and trees with aluminum foil, several advantages are found. Among them, that of keeping snails and slugs away from plants. To do this, the base must be covered with paper and a few stones on top so that the wind does not carry it away.
Regarding fruit trees, the trunk can be covered to protect it from rodents which devour the harvest and young shoots. Cut two sheets of aluminum foil so you can wrap the trunk and then cover it. All that remains is to secure with ropes.
Likewise, aluminum foil can be used to protect trees from herbivorous mammals, such as goats, among others. Paper should be placed around the trunk at a sufficient height to deter these animals from approaching.
Growing seedlings
One of the most interesting uses of aluminum foil in the garden is to reflect sunlight and encourage plant seedlings to grow efficiently. The reflected rays will provide heat and thus create a good temperature for the seeds. Find a cardboard or box and wrap the inside with aluminum foil so that the paper extends 5 cm beyond the edge. Secure with tape so that the sheet does not move. Make holes in the bottom of the box to drain excess water.
Keep birds and other animals away
Birds are naturally afraid of bright and noisy things. So if you want to protect your fruits and plants, simply tie long narrow strips of foil around them.
Keep deer away
Their long legs and slender mouths reach young trees easily. Wrap a wide strip of aluminum foil around a tree trunk at least 50 cm high to scare them away.
