Pelargonium, also called balcony or florist’s geranium, is a flowering plant native to South Africa. This perennial herbaceous plant offers colorful flowers that adorn balconies and window sills. Florists’ geraniums are perennial flowering plants, appreciated for their decorative appearance. These herbs can be grown in the ground, or in pots or planters. To obtain lush and vigorous flowers, just one ingredient is enough.
How to fertilize geraniums with sugar?
Sugar is an effective natural ingredient for reinvigorating plants and reviving them, especially when they begin to lose their color in winter. In fact, the lack of light during this cold season of the year can lead to yellowing of plant foliage. To avoid this, simply sprinkle a teaspoon of powdered sugar on the soil. You can also mix sugar and coffee grounds, which is a good fertilizer for plants. This mixture will give plants a boost and stimulate the growth of their roots. Then water the soil to incorporate the mixture well. If this tip is effective, it is because plants need glucose to feed themselves, but also to promote the development of their root system. To provide your plants with additional nutrients, you can mix sugar with other natural products, such as white vinegar or yeast, to fertilize your plants, especially those in the vegetable garden.
Sugar is also effective in protecting plants from nematodes. The latter are microscopic parasitic worms. While some nematodes are beneficial for growing the garden or vegetable patch, others are more of a pest for plants. Also, if your plants are infested with nematodes, you can mix half a cup of sugar with 5 liters of water. Then spray the solution at the base of the plants.

- The second method involves diluting one tablespoon of sugar in two cups of water.

Note that to obtain vigorous and luxuriant pelargoniums, it is also important to know their growing conditions, in order to take good care of these flowering plants. This perennial plant appreciates exposure to partial shade or full sun. Choose a special geranium soil for growing it, and water it as soon as the soil dries out on the surface. Water the flowers preferably in the morning. In winter, only water your plants if they are very dry. Moreover, pelargonium is not hardy and therefore cannot withstand cold and frost . Also, do not hesitate to regularly prune faded flowers and yellowed foliage.
