The trick to growing beautiful geraniums on your balcony

Growing Geraniums from Cuttings

If you already have a geranium plant from which you can take cuttings, this method is particularly effective for quickly producing new plants at home.

Steps to Follow:

  1. Wait until spring and take cuttings that are 5 to 7 cm long.
  2. Ensure each cutting has 2-3 leaves.
  3. Sprinkle with crushed charcoal to prevent rot.
  4. Allow the cuttings to air-dry for 24 hours.
  5. Plant them in light soil or river sand.

For Info:
You do not need to cover the cuttings with plastic wrap. Maintain a constant temperature between 20 and 22 degrees Celsius and regularly moisten the soil without causing water to come into excessive contact with the stems and leaves. Once the cuttings are well-rooted, transplant them into individual pots.

Growing Geraniums from Seed Indoors

Geranium pot

If cuttings are not an option, you can start geraniums from seeds available at any gardening store. Geraniums have an excellent germination rate, making them a great choice even for beginners.

Steps to Follow:

  1. Choose a substrate composed of river sand, peat, and potting soil in equal proportions (1:1:2).
  2. Aerate the mixture, water it thoroughly, then sprinkle the seeds on the surface of the soil.
  3. Cover the seeds with a thin layer of the same mixture, about 2 to 3 cm high.
  4. Protect the seeds with plastic wrap or a cover, and keep them at a constant temperature of 20 to 22 degrees Celsius.
  5. Water the seeds using a sprayer, and periodically remove the plastic wrap to ensure adequate ventilation.
Transplant the geraniums into another pot

After 1.5 to 2 months, you will see leaves appear on the stems. This signals that the geraniums can be pricked out and transplanted into small, individual pots. Continue to care for them, and you will soon enjoy a vibrant display of beautiful geraniums.
