How to make fertilizer from potato peels?

Liquid fertilizer from potato peels
How to do ?
- To prepare this fertilizer, peel 3 to 6 potatoes (the ones you will use to make fries for example!).
- Then, once peeled, finely chop the peels.
- Boil them in a saucepan filled with a liter of water for 15 minutes.
- Then cool the broth and filter it through a sieve.
- Water your orchids with this liquid every 15 days.
We recommend making small amounts of fertilizer, as you will only be able to store them in the refrigerator for 2 weeks.
Powdered fertilizer from potato peels
You can also prepare a fertilizer in powder form, always based on potato peelings. It takes a little longer to prepare, but you will benefit from it for longer.
How to do ?
- First, rinse the peels well under cold water.
- Then dry them in the open air or in the oven.
- In the first case, spread the peels in a thin layer on paper or fabric, and place them on a balcony or window (away from the sun).
- It takes between 10 to 12 days for them to dry perfectly.
- If patience is not your strong suit, opt instead for drying in an oven heated to 100°C, which will only take 3 or 4 hours.
- Once thoroughly dried, put the peels in a cloth bag so they can breathe and store them in a cupboard. If you prefer natural drying, then it makes more sense to store them in a cool place.
- To make the fertilizer when you need it, take the peels out of the bag and grind them into powder in the blender. This powder can be poured directly under the root of plants once every 4 weeks.
- Remember to store this fertilizer in plastic bags.
The big advantage is that this powder can be kept for several weeks.
Surely, your plants will delight in these benefits, revealing more of their dazzling blooms!
