The fungi spores initially infect the lower leaves and fruits of the plant, manifesting as brown spots. These spots eventually become watery and then turn black, compromising the plant’s health.
In addition to temperature fluctuations, a deficiency in trace elements such as boron and calcium can exacerbate these conditions. The fungi grow inside the vegetable, rendering it unusable.
Preventive Measures for Tomatoes and Peppers
To safeguard your vegetables from fungal infections, regular preventive treatments are crucial:
- Calcium-Based Sprays: Apply a product containing calcium to your plants. For optimal absorption, the air temperature should be cool. Choose calcium in chelated form for quick and efficient uptake by the plants. Alternatively, use calcium nitrate, although its effects will become noticeable only after about two weeks.
- Brexyl Calcium: Another effective option is Brexyl Calcium. Dissolve 30 grams of this product in 10 liters of water and spray your plants every two weeks. This solution can be stored for up to one day. Brexyl Calcium contains both boron and calcium, essential for plant health throughout their growth period.
