Making eggshell tea fertilizer for plants is a simple and effective way to provide your plants with calcium and other nutrients.

Here’s how to do it:

Ingredients:

  • 6 eggshells
  • 2 liters of water
  • Epsom salt or magnesium sulfate

Procedure:

  1. Prepare the Eggshells: Break six eggs and separate the shells from the yolks and whites. Try to remove the inner membrane from the shells.
  2. Boil the Water: Place 2 liters of water in a pot and bring it to a boil.
  3. Grind the Eggshells: Crush the eggshells into fine particles, resembling sand, using a mortar and pestle.
  4. Cook the Eggshells: Once the water is boiling, add the crushed eggshells to the pot. Let them cook for at least 5 minutes.
  5. Add Epsom Salt: Include about 15 grams or a tablespoon of Epsom salt to the boiling water. Epsom salt is rich in magnesium, which is beneficial for plants.
  6. Let it Rest: Remove the pot from the heat and allow the mixture to cool. Cover the pot and let it rest for 24 hours.
  7. Strain the Mixture: After 24 hours, strain the mixture using a strainer and pour the strained liquid into a plastic bottle.
  8. Application: Use the strained liquid to water your plants at least once a month. You can also use the leftover waste from the strainer to place around plants to deter pests like snails or slugs.
  9. Storage: Store any leftover eggshell tea fertilizer in a shady place. Before using it again, give it a little shake.

Types of Fertilizers:

  1. Organic Fertilizers: Derived from animal or vegetable sources, organic fertilizers are applied directly to the soil. Examples include manure, compost, and green fertilizers.
  2. Chemical Fertilizers: These fertilizers are derived from chemical elements and are transformed into other compounds. They must be used cautiously to avoid environmental damage.
  3. Natural Fertilizers: Made at home with ingredients from the kitchen, natural fertilizers include items like lentils, banana peels, coffee grounds, and eggshells. They provide essential nutrients to plants in an organic and sustainable way.
